What/Where is the Used Book Store?

The Used Book Store is located inside the Reading Lounge, located to the left of the main entrance to the Library (through the rear parking lot next to City Hall). The Reading Lounge/Used Book Store is open during Library hours, and is not staffed. All of the books in this area are available for sale, and are price marked accordingly. There is a yellow lock box for you to place your money in if you’d like to purchase books; if this arrangement makes you uncomfortable, the Library staff can process your payments. (Please note the lock box operates on the honor system - we have faith in our community that this system is not abused).

Are the Friends accepting book donations?

The Friends are now accepting donations! We gratefully accept:

-Hardcover and paperback books in good condition, less than 10 years old
-Clean, undamaged copies of “classic” titles
-Paperback fiction, mysteries and romance novels
-CDs and DVDs commercially published, no copies
-Magazines no older than 4 months

Please drop off items during Library hours.

Can I donate to the Friends without becoming a member?

Absolutely. Please email scsfriendsofthelibrary@outlook.com to reach out to someone about a charitable donation. We appreciate the support of all of our patrons!

How do I volunteer
for the Friends?

Please email scsfriendsofthelibrary@outlook.com to learn more about volunteer opportunities. Please note, to become a volunteer with the St. Clair Shores Library (for example, to get community service hours for school), please reach out the Library staff; the Friends is comprised of mainly adult volunteers. Volunteer positions are also available on the Board of the Directors for the Friends; we ask that Directors commit for 1 year and attend monthly meetings.

When is the next book sale?

The Friends tries to plan a one-day-only used book sale every Spring and Fall. Follow our Facebook or Instagram page to find out when the next one is!

What is an accessory sale?

Exactly what it sounds like! Along with our used book sales, the Friends tries to plan an Accessory sale of donated items once or twice a year. Items available for purchase range from jewelry to scarves to purses and more. Please note, all accessories for sale are gently used and generously donated.
